Mother Edna Mae McClam

Obituary of Mother Edna Mae McClam

It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mother Edna Mae McClam. Please remember the McClam Family in your prayers as they are planning her Homegoing Celebration. Her obituary: On the morning of Friday November 3, 2023, our heavenly father sent angels down to send for Mother Edna Mae McClam. On December 27, 1938, Edna Mae McClam was born to the late Pauline Cox and Andrew Cox Sr. Mother McClam attended and graduated from Latta High School. She bought her first home in Norristown Pennsylvania, where she shared her life with her late husband Prince McClam and her son Dwyane McClam. She then moved to Latta, South Carolina where she enjoyed long walks, her farm, and spending time with her close family members and friends. For many years she was employed at Philco-Ford until she retired in her golden years. Edna Mae McClam was a devoted lover of God. She was an active member of New Mill Branch Baptist Church for over 20 years. At the church, she served as the president of the Usher Ministry for many years, the president of the missionary ministry, the chair person of Culinary Ministry, a Sunday school teacher and even became a member of the Pastor's Aide Ministry. She always made sure to be of support to the members of the church any way she could. She was a selfless woman. She was there if you needed a place to stay, someone to talk to, or lend a helping hand. She was sure to volunteer and help out in any way she could. Due to her passion of knitting, she founded The Latta Senior Empowerment Senior Citizens group in 2010. These likewise passionate group of ladies gathered Tuesdays and Thursdays to knit hats for students. She was either affectionately known as “Mae Edna”, “Medna”, “Edna” or NaNa, she had no problem with answering to either one. After all, it all came from loved ones. Whether she was giving out good advice or conversing about current events, she truly loved the company. If you weren’t under the car port conversing at “Edna’s”, you missed out! Car Port days..that turned into nights at Mother McClam’s house were not only memorable but they were valuable. To know Mother McClam was to love Mother McClam. Oh she would tell you the hard truth and love you down all in the same breath. But hey, you still came back for more. Because deep down her love and care surpassed it all. She was a great cook too! From collard greens mixed with fatback to her layered cakes. She always made sure to provide you a hearty portion. Whether she was out in the yard in the early morning watering and repotting her plants or feeding her beloved animals, she was an outdoors woman! She was a deeply involved family woman. She would spend her latter days traveling to Norristown, Pennsylvania to see her family and friends. We would be amiss to forget about her beloved church hats, plants, and salt and pepper shaker collections. Wow, did she have a bunch and of every kind too! While one lost a mother, some a grandmother, some a sister, some an aunt, a cousin or friend, we can all agree that this loss has been immeasurable. Heartbreaking yes, but we can rest in peace knowing that Edna Mae McClam is now residing with our Lord and Savior. So the next time you see a nice plant or flower make sure you think of Mae Edna McClam. We lost our matriarch but we’ll never lose our memories. On behalf of the McClam and Cox family, we love hearing about all of the loving stories you have about our loved one. God bless you all. Surviving Mother Edna Mae McClam in death was her son Dwayne McClam of Norristown Pennsylvania, 1 sister Takiyah Abdullah of South Carolina, 3 grandchildren Myesha and Mersades McClam of Royersford and Reading Pennsylvania Taryn McClam of Norristown, Pennsylvania, 2 great grandchildren, Kaylee Lowman and Kali Mathis. She also leaves behind a host of cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends and family.
