Mr. Randy Grice

Obituary of Mr. Randy Grice

Randy Collis Grice, son of the late Bobby Randolph Grice and Esther Lee Campbell Grice, was born in Dillon County on August 19, 1951. He grew up on a farm of the Hayestown community in Lake View, South Carolina. The family moved to Dillon, South Carolina, where he attended and later graduated from Gordon High School. He joined St. Mark Baptist Church at an early age, and maintained his relationship with the Lord! Randy was a proud member of the United States Marines from 1969 until 1972; receiving basic training in Parris Island South Carolina and was later stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and Camp Pendleton, California. Randy received a National Defense Service Medal and a Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. While he served during this Vietnam Era, his entire unit was in staging for deployment, but his mom’s prayers prevailed and he didn’t get deployed. Upon his honorable discharge, he moved to Washington, DC, where he became a City Metro Bus Driver. Randy reunited with his high school sweetheart, Roxie from Gordon High School days and in 1973, Roxie and Randy united in holy matrimony and to this union, two daughters were born. Randy became a certified Welder upon graduation from Florence Darlington Technical College in 1978. Later in life, he began a new career at PPM, an Encor Company in Bennettsville, South Carolina from 1992 until his passing on Friday, January 14, 2022 as a Dedicated Contract Employee. Randy’s leisure time led him to become a member of “Wonder Lodge No. 459”, where he served, along with his father. Later in life, his favorite pastime became following the Dillon Wildcats from his own “private viewing box” on Friday nights. He was also a big-time football fanatic favoring the Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid history buff and news fanatic. His biggest joy was sitting around at the annual family holiday dinners and discussing the hottest news topics with his siblings. He later turned that knowledge and sharp interest in keeping up with news, sports and trivia to his annual dinners with his two daughters and family. His favorite coffee/news shop was his daily visit to Tiger Mart I-95. Randy was preceded in death by his wife Roxie Jones Grice and a brother, Larry D. Grice. His memories will be cherished by his two daughters, Vanessa Regina (Thomas) Larry and Michelle Grice of Charlotte, North Carolina; three grandchildren , Dominique (Julia) Fergerson of Corpus Christi, Texas; Michael (Gina) Campbell of Columbia, South Carolina; Nasya Campbell of Charlotte, North Carolina and one great granddaughter, Carmen Fergerson.
