Obituary of Mother Dorothy McClellan

Dorothy MeClellan was born on August 4,1944,in Proctorville North Carolina to the late Freddie McDuffie and Sallie Washington-McDuffie. Dorothy received her early education in North Carolina and later moved to New York City with her family and attended Girls High School in Brooklyn. She married the love of her life, Calvin Richard McClellan in 1961.To this union four children were born: Sherant(Richard),Diane, Daniel, and Benjamin. She was a loving wife and mother in addition to working at Wartburg Lutheran Nursing Home for many years. Dorothy was introduced to Christ at an early age and became a member of The First Corinthian Baptist Church. She served there faithfully for over 30 years with her entire family including her husband and children. She was an active member of the Usher Board and later became the Vice President and President. As the president she planned many trips for her church family, bus trips, cruises and especially those wonderful church picnics to Hecksher State Park. After the death of her beloved husband, Dorothy relocated to Lumberton, North Carolina. There she continued serving the Lord at Greenville Baptist Church where she become a Deaconess, president of the Pastors Aide and she sang on the Gospel Choir. She served faithfully until she became ill. She would always sing "You Know My Name" which was one of her favorite songs. Dorothy loved her family and was a wonderful cook. She was famous for cooking and hosting Sunday "Soul Food" dinners where one could find her delicious (macaroni and cheese and famous pineapple cake).She loved looking good for church and was known for dressing up with her big fancy hats and beautiful suits to match. Dorothy was one of the kind! She didn't mind telling you exactly how she felt, but she would do it in a most loving way with a big smile on her face! She was our delicate flower and we will miss her big smile. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Richard McClellan, her son, Sherant(Richard)McClellan and Godson Lonelle McClellan. Dorothy transitioned from her earthly home to be with the Lord on August 22. 2022, in Brooklyn, New York. She leaves a loving family to cherish her memory: one daughter Diane (Michael);two sons, Daniel (Anissia) and Benjamin(Anne); one daughter-in-law, Gay: Sister Myrtle Salmon: Four sisters-in-law, Willa D. Gaddy, Vanger Lee MeDuffie, Cola and Francis MeClellan; Ten grandchildren. Laquanna. Channiel, Michael(Trisha), Benzel(Alicia),Deshaun, Deekeya, Kasine Brandon, Makiah, and Paris; Five great grandchildren, Soraya, Aiden, Julian, Dio and Zora :Two God Children, Brenda and Tyrell: a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dorothy loved all of her family but she had a special fondness for some very special nieces and nephew which she affectionately called her right and left hand, Sally Mae Jones, Christine Hollie and Maurice Lewis.
