Mother Queen Thompson

Obituary of Mother Queen Esther Thompson

But thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ 1 Corinthians 15:57 Mother Queen Esther Emanuel Thompson was born on March 23, 1933, in Marlboro County, South Carolina to the late Alex and Wilhelmina Emanuel. She departed this earthly life Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at home. Mother Thompson received her education in the public-school systems of Marlboro and Dillon Counties. While in school “Sister” as she was known to her family and friends was an avid basketball player and would play with the varsity boys basketball team instead of the girls. Sister also was known in the Marlboro County for her melodious voice and would sing at different revival services and evening programs which led to her and a few friends to form a group called The Four Mayflowers. In April of 1951 one evening after playing basketball, she was introduced by her brother Conley to a young man by the name of Willie Thompson. The couple dated and married in September of that same year and with this union came seven children, and they remained married 57 years until the passing of her husband March 10, 2009. Mother Thompson worked at Wentworth Manufacturing, Dillon Manufacturing, and Craftex Creations. During her employment she received numerous rewards for her skill of sewing. After retiring she became a homemaker and avid gardener until her health failed. Mother Thompson believed in the word of God and its truth; she was born in the AME Faith but after hearing the word of God preached of repentance and water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ through the Late Bishop R.F. Davis in 1954, she tarried around the altar calling on the name of Jesus and received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost one Friday night after a weeklong revival at ‘Highway’. This was her introduction to the way of Holiness, and the Apostolic Faith. Although Mother Thompson traveled down many paths, “Highway” was always in her heart, and she kept hold to her teachings; she later rejoined along with her grandson Min. Morris White. Mother Thompson was a faithful and dedicated member of The Greater Highway Church of Christ, of Latta, SC. She always enjoyed the Sunday School discussions, the testimonies, and the praises; she would always say, “There is no place like Highway.” Mother was recently consecrated with one of the highest honors as being named Church Mother during the 66th International Convocation on Friday, October 14, 2022; what a mighty God we serve. Mother Thompson was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, her husband Willie Sanders Thompson, one son Dr. Michael Lynn Thompson and one grandson DeShawn P. Thompson. She leaves to cherish fond memories of six children Ruby McZyck of Columbia, SC, Willie Calvin (Olivia) Thompson of Latta, SC, Alfred Jerome (Manuela) Westland, MI, Wendell (Pastor Mary) Thompson of Latta, SC, Shelia (Thomas) Jackson Manassas, VA and Beverly White, Latta, one honorary son Gregory P.
