Mr. Virgil Outlaw

Obituary of Mr. Virgil Warren Outlaw

John 14:1-3 “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself: that where I am, there ye may be also.” Almost silently, Virgil Outlaw crept into the world on August 2, 1956, then quietly stole away with the angels on February 19, 2023, after 66 years of a glorious life. He was born in Evansville, Indiana to the late Paul and Louise Howard Outlaw, he was the fifth child of seven children. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gary and Phillip Outlaw, sister-in-law DeAnna, niece Andrea Outlaw-Sanders, and Warren Wade his brother-in-law. Our Father God dispatched a train of angels to the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Florence, South Carolina transporting Virgil to a much happier interplanetary totally independent of human error, sin, sickness, and disappointments. Placed him in a new home where the streets are paved with gold, reuniting with family and friends in the heavenly citizenship of our God’s perpetual resting place. Virgil along with his brothers and sisters grew up on the family farm on the west side of Evansville. He attended the former Union Township School and graduated from F.J. Reitz High School in 1974. While in Evansville, he accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Dove Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he participated in the Sunday School, the youth Usher Board, and the Junior Choir. A few years after high school he began a 40-plus year career with CSX Railroad at Howell Yards on Evansville’s west side. He enjoyed working with his brother Phillip and cousins Roy and Jim Outlaw as well as others in a small but tight-knit group of African American railroaders. He was appreciative of the older guys schooling the younger ones how to navigate the ropes. He continued his career with CSX moving to Jacksonville, Florida, and Florence, South Carolina to eventually become a dispatcher and later retire. Virgil loved the sport of golf in his spare time. He loved to watch all sports to ensure Jessica knew about any sport she may have been interested in. He was an avid Jaguars fan. Virgil loved fishing, old-school music, eating good food, and spending time with his family. Virgil was a gentleman with a soft voice that always greeted you with a smile. His soft curls always made people look at him twice. His charm will always be remembered with his smile and gentleness. Virgil loved Jessica and she knew early how to wrap him around her finger, even when she became a college graduate. He ensured she was spoiled and no one could ever take his place. Jessica was the apple of her father’s eye as he was very proud of her and always encouraged her in her many academic accomplishments. Virgil is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gloria Ann Wade Outlaw; daughter, Jessica Grace Louise Outlaw, of the home, brothers Paul (Pat) Outlaw, Jr. of Evansville and Henry (Connie) Outlaw of Henderson, KY, sisters Vera (Eddie) Johnson and Terri (Maurice) Dorsey, one sister-in-law Anna Outlaw, of Evansville and aunt, June Johnson of Indianapolis, IN. Two sisters in law Veronica (Alton) Davis of Marion, South Carolina, Esther (Henry) Foxworth, two brothers-in-law, Lonnie (Afreeka) Wade of Dillon, South Carolina, James C. Wade, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends in Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, South Carolina, & Wisconsin. The family will receive friends at 990 Took Place, Florence, SC 29505. Please remember the Outlaw Family in your prayers.
